Strangers in Paradise

”Norway” viewed from Hollywood.

Strangers in Paradise is a video project based on a collection of American mainstream films and TV series that refer to or depict ”the Norwegian”, Norwegians, or Norway.

Strangers in Paradise is lead by an interest in how the medium of film constructs and defines people, types, places, and identities. Also, the project is motivated by the idea of the archive, both as a technology of memory, organisation, and tracing of the distant and close past. The archive serve as a place where a given cultural content may be given new readings and enter into new contexts.

The project is a collaboration between Bjørn Erik Haugen, MA graduate from the Art Academy in Oslo and André Larsen Avelin, MA graduate in cultural history from the University of Oslo.
